Local alternatives to…
These pages exist for one specific reason: a contract, an NDA or a subject-privacy obligation that makes uploading the footage impossible. If that is not your constraint, the cloud tool is often the better product and these pages say so.

What you give up by going local
Being straight about the trade, because these pages are useless if they only list upsides. A local tool cannot give you shared review links, comments from a client, or a colleague opening the same library from another city. It runs the models on your own hardware, so an old machine indexes slowly. And cloud services can run larger models than a laptop can, which shows up most in speech and face recognition.
What you get in return is that nothing leaves the machine, that the archive stays searchable years later without a subscription, and that a drive on a shelf is still in the catalogue. If the constraint that brought you here is contractual rather than financial, that is the whole trade.
Before you switch tools
Whether footage has to be uploaded at all is checkable in five minutes - here is the test. The side-by-side comparisons cover the tools people choose between rather than move away from.
